FIDE World Chess Championship Match 2016

November 11, 2016 - November 30, 2016

Perhaps the most exciting event of the year, the FIDE World Chess Championship will be taking place in New York on November 11-30, 2016. Magnus (25 years old) will be challenging Russian newcomer Sergey Karjakin (26 years old) in a series of 12 games, broadcast globally to hundreds of millions of tech-savvy chess fans. This will be the first time in history that the title of “World Champion” will be fought for by two members of the digital, millennial generation. The pivotal match will take place in New York City in the newly renovated Fulton Market Building located in South Street Seaport, an area that was heavily damaged by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. A vitalization project over the past three years has brought the area back to life and will allow for the event to take place in a compelling new venue. Tune in and show your support by watching the event on worldchess.com.
